It prepares students for roles in managing recreational facilities, programmes, and services in both public and private sectors.

Recreation & Tourism Events Management B

This module aims at equipping students with recreation and tourism events management skills.

The focus of this module will be on the following:

Events accounting and financial management; Events marketing; Events Sponsorship; Design management for events; Banqueting; Project management;  Covid-19 impact on events management; Event risk and safety management; Evaluation and monitoring.

Highlight of the module will be hosting a live event in October.

1RTO311 Tourism Research A

In this module, students are equipped with critical thinking and analytical skills necessary to interpret research findings and apply evidence-based insights to tourism planning, policy development, and industry practice. The module further prepares learners for postgraduate study and for undertaking independent research projects relevant to sustainable tourism development and community-based tourism contexts. The module is at NQF Level 7, and introduces students to the theoretical foundations and practical application of research within the tourism and hospitality context.

This module introduces learners to the strategic role of information technology and distribution channels within the tourism and hospitality industry. Positioned at NQF Level 7, the module equips learners with advanced technological terminology, concepts, and applications relevant to contemporary tourism operations. Emphasis is placed on how digital technologies enable product distribution, market access, customer engagement, and operational efficiency across the tourism value chain.

The module explores both traditional and digital distribution channels, including global distribution systems (GDS), online travel agencies (OTAs), destination management systems, booking engines, and social media platforms. Learners engage critically with the impact of information technology on tourism intermediaries, suppliers, and consumers, with particular attention to issues of innovation, competitiveness, data management, and digital transformation in hospitality and tourism enterprises.

1RTO221 Recreation & Tourism Events Management A

The Introduction to Recreation module provides learners with a foundational understanding of recreation as a social, cultural, and economic phenomenon. The module explores key concepts, theories, and principles underpinning recreation, leisure, and play, with particular attention to their role in individual wellbeing, community development, and quality of life. Learners are introduced to various forms of recreational activities, including indoor, outdoor, community-based, and commercial recreation, as well as their planning, organisation, and management.

The module further examines the relationship between recreation, tourism, sport, and health, highlighting the contribution of recreation to social inclusion, sustainable development, and economic growth. Emphasis is placed on the South African and global contexts, enabling learners to critically analyse recreation practices within diverse cultural and environmental settings. By the end of the module, learners will have developed the foundational knowledge and analytical skills necessary for further study or entry-level roles in recreation, leisure, tourism, and related industries.
