Welcome to the module 1PH507 ((A Study Of Texts)). This module is intended for Honours students in Philosophy.
In this module, the student will be introduced to a number of philosophical texts that have shaped certain trends in the African philosophy tradition. These texts emanate from the book under the title "Readings in African Philosophy: An Akan Collection" by Safro Kwame. These texts include themes about Philosophy and Traditional African societies; Metaphysics; Logic and Epistemology; Moral and Political Philosophy. The philosophers who are part of these themes include: Kwasi Wiredu; Kwame Gyekye; Kwame Anthony Appiah; Safro Kwame; Kobina Oguah; William Abraham; Kofi Busia; William Amo; and Kwame Nkruma.
By the end of this semester the student should be able to develop a philosophical understanding and mastery of the topics arising from these philosophers. They must demonstrate the capacity to interrogate or engage these topics philosophically.
