Welcome to Criminal Law A. It is trusted that you will find this module both interesting and stimulating. The purpose of this module is to introduce you to the general principle of Criminal law South Africa. As law students you will work in the court environment/ a legal related environment – either as an employee or a principal attorney or even a prosecutor.

 

We will start off by investigating the various factors that one takes into account when an accused person is charged of a crime, what requirements for criminal liability.

As this is a second year module, you are required to study independently. It is not sufficient to merely attend lectures. You must prepare for lectures. You need to ensure that you meet the learning objectives; these must guide you in preparing for assessments. Moreover, as the number of academic weeks is limited it is not possible to extensively cover the course content during the limited contact hours. Whatever is not covered during the online sessions must still be studied – independently.
