The purpose of this course is to provide the beginning engineering student with an insight into how computers work. This will be done in two stages. Students will learn algorithmic problem-solving, coding, and debugging techniques. Students will write programs to solve simple problems drawn from a wide range of disciplines, primarily in the sciences and business. Zero computing background is assumed.

This course aims to introduce students to the current trends and technologies in database technology.It is undoubtedly true that database systems hold a prominent place in most contemporary approaches to the development of information systems. This course introduces students to the enterprise database systems, covering areas such as Transaction management, Database performance tuning, Data warehousing, distributed databases, internet databases. Applications of Decision support systems will also be covered.
The practical component will expose students to advanced SQL, Transaction management, and Business Intelligence.
The purpose of this module is to teach students the fundamental concepts necessary to construct web pages using the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).
Furthermore; students will also learn the best practices of web development which revolves around the use of HTML, Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript to separate structure, presentation and behavior.
Students are taught the JavaScript programming language; a client-side scripting language and the PHP; a server-side scripting language used to produce dynamic websites.
The Honours Research Project is a compulsory computer Science Honours degree component. The project consists of a substantial piece of independent research or software engineering (programming) over the year (two semesters) under the guidance of an academic supervisor(s), with a final mini-dissertation and other project deliverables.
The student must demonstrate skills appropriate to the project, including literature survey, the software engineering process, testing and evaluation, and documenting and presenting results. There is the expectation of nontrivial or a significant amount of code to be written.
The project may be self-proposed or may be selected from a list of project proposals.
Each project will be supervised by at least one CS academic staff member.
A small number of introductory lectures are given at the start of the project.
The purpose of the module is to provide the skills and knowledge to understand the geomorphology and cartography.
Geomorphology is the science of the Earth's surface landforms and the processes that operate to form them over geologic time (102 to 106 years). Through class lectures and practical exercises, we will learn about the historical development of geomorphology, techniques used in geomorphological research and surficial process operating in different environments.
The cartography part of the module deals with the factual basis for making decisions concerning the design and interpretation of maps. The module is designed to stimulate interest in cartographic issues that play an important role in the various fields of study.
Successful completion of this course will enable us to recognised and describe different landform and how they were formed.
The Computer Literacy module serves as an introduction to basic computing skills. Over the span of a single semester, this course aims to familiarise students with the essential aspects of computer technology through explanation, illustration, and practical application of concepts. The curriculum includes basics of internet browsers, applications, programs, and concludes with a focused study on Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.

Students will obtain more advanced abilities to harness the power of digital platforms for the benefit of company or personal life.
The purpose of Ethos and Professional Practice Module is to equip a first-year nursing student with knowledge, skills and attitude required to achieve an acceptable level of competence when dealing with general communities. Understanding and application of the ethics and practices of the nursing profession. In order to achieve competence, you are required to interrogate multiple sources including various stakeholders during your placement at the hospital and clinic settings. You are expected to take responsibility and accountability during your planning and decision making in your studies.
This module serves to enable learners to develop knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to address health issue in nursing through application of relevant ethics and practices of nursing to identify, analyse apply and evaluate each community using ethical approaches. While being self-critical on your own shortfall and learning needs you will be equipped to use effectively relevant strategies to address your learning academic and professional learning needs in an on-going manner. Lifelong learning is the way to go because the current world system is too unpredictable and unstable which further affects stability of healthcare. Furthermore, as a first-year student nurse you will learn how to always conduct yourself professionally during and after working with patients and in the communities in general. Welcome to the module “Introduction to Biophysics”. This module is a service module for nursing science Second year students in the “Nursing” programme. It entails an introduction to basic mechanics, heat and molecular structure, wave motion, light and sound, electricity, atomic and nuclear physics. To make these topics accessible to Nursing science students, the content is treated in a way that avoids advance mathematics, like calculus. This is to account for the fact that Mathematics and Physical Science is not a prerequisite requirement for entry into the programme.

The purpose of the module is to give the students an introduction to the concepts and theories applicable to quantum and statistical physics. By the end of the module, the student should be able to demonstrate an ability to illustrate, derive and discuss theories, principles and laws relevant to quantum statistics, quantum mechanics and statistical physics. Assessment is continuous involving written assignments, oral presentations, written tests, practical reports, and a final formal end of module written assessment (100%)

The purpose of this module is to 1) continue from discrete distributions, introduced in 4STT112, to continuous distributions 2) introduce multivariate distribution, transformations of random variables, distributions of functions of random variables and correlations 3) followed by the central limit theorem and sampling distributions and 4) finally considering approximations for discrete distributions. Where possible the properties of the distributions will be examined. This module (combined with 4STT112) will equip you with the necessary tools to manage 4STT212, and all of your third-year modules successfully.
Knowledge obtained in Distribution Theory will be used to derive point and interval estimators for various population parameters and certain functions of population parameters. Estimators will then be used to test various hypotheses about population parameters. Distribution-free tests will also be discussed. Basic theory of statistical inference will be discussed under the topics of sufficient statistics, power of a test, best critical regions and likelihood ratio tests.
