The module orientates you on the International viewpoints of Nursing Management, which you are required to understand, learn and apply as a Nurse Manager. The module focuses on the following: The contemporary nurse manager, overview of nurse manager and nursing management, international nursing management, theories of nursing management, theory of nursing: relevance to nursing management, nursing management theory, managing a national health service, nursing leadership - a facilit ative role, managing transition and mediating function of the nurse manager. The module contains information that provides you with knowledge, skills and attitude basic to Nursing Management, locally, nationally and internationally, managing transition and mediation.
The module is offered at the end of your Degree to equip you with information around current International viewpoints of Nursing Management. It therefore, encourages critical thinking lays the foundation of decision-making in practice around the more complex and/or complicated Nursing Management viewpoints, principles and interventions, which are implemented by Nurse Managers around the world, in Africa and the other BRICS countries.
Your level 1 and level 2 knowledge of Nursing Management content will assist you to analyse international viewpoints of Nursing Management.
The teaching and learning methods used:
The teaching and learning methods of nursing will integrate methods of Problem Based Learning (PBL) – class presentations, discussions, group work, seminars, and independent study, assignment – homework and theoretical assessment. Practically, the strategy of PBL will be implemented as follows:
- The teacher [in PBL terms, the facilitator] will create a problem [the learning scenario]
- The problem [scenario] is presented to the student – in the study guide, these are referred to as Activities.
- Students [or participants] get involved and actively participate to solve the presented problem – and present or explain their solution/answer to the problem/question.
- As aforementioned, students will obtain advanced Nursing Management skills by participating in critical engagement in respect of international viewpoints of Nursing Management.
